Accepted & Showing at the de Young Museum in SF!!!

Good day, friends and neighbors! It's a beautiful Friday!

Let's start with the important stuff--the FOOOOOOD! Our new menu for the week of September 11 is live and taking orders HERE. We have a nice combo of "let's pretend summer will never end" meals, as well as some nice transitional meals that don't really belong to any season, but are always in season at dinnertime. As soon as you place your order, you'll be able to focus on other things besides planning & making dinner, so order now before your favorites sell out.

Now we can focus on the exciting news!

CHEF GINNY IS ACCEPTED INTO THE DE YOUNG OPEN 2023

Wait...THE de Young Museum? Yes, THE de Young Museum up in San Francisco, that one that houses fine arts and big names and has big shows with super famous artists. Yes, yes, that is the de Young we are talking about. So let's back up the truck and get everyone on board as many of you don't know about my (Chef Ginny, here) art background. I know in a previous post I told you a bit about my almost-famous stepfather, Roger Vines, the glass artist. If you wanted to go back and review that post you can check it out HERE.

The short story is I applied to the de Young Open 2023 and I am accepted into the show!!! Over 7,700 hopeful Bay Area artists applied to the call, and under 900 were selected by a blind jury--including MY multi-media-oil painting called "Debt." The opening day & celebration is Saturday, September 30th, and any resident from the 9 Bay Area counties can go for FREE on that date. You can learn about the de Young Open 2023 HERE. And you can get your FREE tickets to the opening event on September 30th HERE. There will be wonderful events, activities & food trucks and of course the exciting art by Bay Area artists who are showing Salon-Style at the de Young from 9/30/2023 to 1/7/2024--Don't wait if you want to attend the opening day events as the ticket time slots will fill up (aka "sell out" even though they are free)! You don't need to be a member to get these free tickets.

Is Chef Ginny a chef or an artist? My background is complex, so I'll make it easy. I'm an artist. I have always been and will always be an artist. I specifically learned extensively how to oil paint and have taken many classes over the years and had several teachers. I have juried into many shows and have won many awards, including some of those blue ribbons!

I am also formally trained in pattern making, tailoring and fashion design, and yes, I've custom made dresses for the red carpet, and also spent my college years as a writer for the national sewing magazine, Sew News and is incidentally how I paid my way through Cal Berkeley. I have an insatiable maker habit. I also always loved cooking and always had a persistent lowkey dream to cook for other people, but NOT have a restaurant. So with my trifecta of home-economic skills, I've just carried on creating, and those creation streaks result in things like...San Mateo Supper Club, or a dress at the Grammy's, or Art at the...de Young!

One of my most successful series of paintings were the portraits I painted of all my friend's children back in 2017. Here are a few of those from that series:

"Day & Night" (Two Sisters)

"Little Peace" Sister & Brother Portrait

"Block's Angels" Raphael's Angels Sibling Parody

"Abby Knows" (or The Rainmaker)

I am also well-known for my gem paintings, of which there are over 100 out in the wild. Debt--the work that is accepted in the de Young show--is also a gem painting. If you want to see more of my work, you can view some way, way, way down at the bottom of my Instagram feed HERE or look up @Gblaze97. I hope I get to see you at the opening on 9/30. Please let me know if you have any questions about the opening or the show in general. We don't really ever get to "see" you--mostly your front porches... I hope you'll join me for this wonderful honor and unique Bay Area event!
